About Swapna Uplekar

Swapna is currently Senior Scientific Officer in the Sequencing Unit, focused on evaluating and enabling next-generation sequencing (NGS) for disease surveillance and clinical diagnostics. Swapna joined FIND in January 2019 as a Scientific Officer for the Unitaid-funded Seq&Treat grant focused on TB, and she has since expanded her work to COVID-19, pandemic threats and AMR.

Swapna has over ten years of experience in the field of infectious disease genomics. Prior to joining FIND, she spent four years at New York University managing projects to build NGS capacity in India for improved malaria diagnosis and drug surveillance. During her PhD at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, Swapna worked extensively on the genomics and transcriptomics of tuberculosis pathogens.
