A propos de Benjamin Blümel

Benjamin Blümel joined FIND in March 2023 as Scientist in the AMR programme.

Before joining FIND, Benjamin worked in the section Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Blood-Borne Viruses and Tuberculosis at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in Sweden where he was ECDC project manager for the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme and was responsible for STI surveillance activities at the EU/EEA level. He also coordinated an ECDC project providing technical support to EU/EEA countries to conduct hepatitis C prevalence surveys and worked as part of ECDC’s response to the 2022 mpox outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. Before working for ECDC, Benjamin was medical resident and later specialist in clinical microbiology at the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg in Germany where he was responsible for hospital-level AMR surveillance activities of the clinical microbiology department and worked on research projects related to AMR in H. pylori.

Benjamin earned his medical degree from Semmelweis University and holds an MSc in Applied Epidemiology from the Berlin School of Public Health/Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He is a graduate of the German Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP) for which he was based at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin.
