A propos de Lorrein Muhwava

Lorrein Muhwava joined FIND in April 2023 as a Scientist in the NCD Programme. She has over a decade of experience implementing public health projects in South Africa. Her previous work has focused on health systems and implementation science research in low- and middle- income settings with experience across maternal and child health, women’s health as well as adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

Prior to joining FIND, Lorrein was a Senior Researcher at one of the leading African research institutes, where she led the qualitative research components of implementation science studies focusing on HIV prevention among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in South Africa. Lorrein has a keen interest in research ethics and has served on regulatory oversight committees providing guidance and support on regulatory requirements within the organization and to affiliated study sites. She is a current member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).

Lorrein completed her PhD (Medicine) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees from the University of Cape Town. Her doctoral work explored type 2 diabetes prevention among women with gestational diabetes in low-income settings. She has published and contributed to several peer-reviewed manuscripts on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and type 2 diabetes in South Africa.
