FIND is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Cassandra Kelly-Cirino to the position of Head of AMR & Outbreak. In this role, Dr Kelly-Cirino will lead FIND’s strategic efforts to ensure appropriate antibiotic use and outbreak response.
FIND is focused on the development and delivery of tests that can be used to guide the appropriate use of antibiotics in patients with fever symptoms, as well as tests for priority pathogens capable of detecting emerging outbreaks before they become epidemics. Dr Kelly-Cirino will work closely with the organization’s recently designated Head of Fever, Dr Sabine Dittrich.
“Cassandra brings valued experience along with a strong commitment to our programme on antimicrobial resistance and outbreaks,” said Catharina Boehme, CEO, FIND. “Her background includes development of public health policy for infectious diseases, with a focus on emergency response and preparedness, and the development of new diagnostic assays for several pathogens.”
Dr Kelly-Cirino was most recently Vice President, Infectious Diseases at DNA Genotek. Before that, she worked as Deputy Director of the New York State Biodefense Laboratory, where she engaged national and international stakeholders in the development of public health policy for infectious diseases with a focus on emergency response and preparedness. Dr Kelly-Cirino also developed novel diagnostic assays for multiple pathogens and served as third-party evaluator for commercial companies developing new tools to combat infectious diseases.
