FIND is a core member of the task force on diagnostic connectivity recently launched by the Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI). The aim of the task force is to increase connectivity capacity for diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries and to provide valuable tools and guidance to stakeholders.
The GLI is a network of international partners working to enhance and expand access to quality assured laboratory services in response to the challenges of rapidly and accurately diagnosing tuberculosis, notably HIV-associated and drug-resistant TB. GLI’s integrated and multi-faceted approach to laboratory capacity strengthening is in close alignment with FIND’s strategy and collaborators at FIND have contributed to many GLI publications, including the GLI quick guide to TB diagnostics connectivity solutions and the GLI practical guide to TB laboratory strengthening.
Key activities for the task force include providing guidance to ministries of health and other agencies on diagnostic connectivity hardware and software solutions, defining best practices in data ownership and security, engaging with manufacturers and industry partners on integrating diagnostics data across treatment and cross-disease platforms, improving coordination of efforts among partners in implementing diagnostic connectivity projects, and facilitating the generation of evidence and evaluation of impact of diagnostic connectivity solutions.
In addition to FIND, members of the task force include representatives from KNCV/Challenge TB, CHAI, US CDC, USAID and the WHO Global TB Programme. The group also plans to include industry representatives intermittently in teleconferences to exchange information on relevant projects.
