Union Conference on Lung Health 2019

Union Conference on Lung Health 2019

The 50th Union conference on lung health comes one year after the first ever United Nations (UN) High-Level Meeting on tuberculosis (TB) and the third UN High-Level Meeting on non-communicable diseases. The theme, Ending the Emergency: Science, Leadership, Action, focuses on what is needed to ensure that commitments become action and that lifesaving targets are met. The conference theme raises awareness that all threats to lung health – TB, air pollution, tobacco, and others – are emergencies that our science, leadership, and health community need to meet head-on.

The Union is also hosting the second annual TBScience pre-conference that brings together scientists from microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, epidemiology, and mathematical modeling to present and discuss recent findings on TB transmission, infection, and disease. Additional focus will be given to the development of better vaccines, new drugs and effective diagnostics for TB.
