About Elena Marbán Castro

Dr. Elena Marbán Castro, PhD MSc, joined FIND in January 2022 as Scientific Officer to support the implementation of COVID-19 self-testing pilots in Malaysia, Brazil and Georgia. In June 2023, she joined the Operational and Implementation Research (OIR) unit at the Impact Department. She is working as Implementation Scientist providing technical support in different studies on infectious diseases (COVID-19, malaria, HIV, Hepatitis etc.) and non-communicable diseases (diabetes). Additionally, she co-founded Women in Global Health Spain where she serves as the Vice-President.

Dr. Marbán Castro obtained her PhD in Translational Medicine from the University of Barcelona, Hospital Clinic and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). Her academic research focused on the clinical outcomes of pregnant women infected with Zika virus (ZIKV), child development during the first years of age, and describing first-hand experiences from women who were pregnant during the ZIKV epidemics. Her studies included travelers and migrants in Spain, as well as women in Colombia from a collaboration and a research stay at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas del Trópico, University of Córdoba, in Montería.
