About Loganathan Prabakaran

Loganathan Prabakaran obtained his Masters degree in Medical Technology (M.Sc.) Microbiology from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India and PhD degree in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from University of Madras. During this period he spent a year in Prof. William R. Jacob’s (Bill Jacob’s) laboratory at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM), New York, USA where he developed the luciferace reporter phage (LRP) construct from the first lysogenic phage infecting M. tuberculosis.

Prior to joining FIND, Loganathan worked at Tuberculosis Research Centre, ICMR, Chennai, India for more than 25 years and was associated in various research activities of the Centre.

In 2008 he served as a FIND Consultant in Ethiopia, assisting in standardising and quality assuring TB Laboratory practice. In 2011, Loganathan joined FIND as Senior Microbiologist at the International Centre of Excellence in Laboratory Training at National Tuberculosis Institute, Bangalore, India. He has been actively involved in onsite training in LPA and liquid culture for sites in India and other South East Asian countries, using GLI-approved training modules, and has been involved in setting up LPA and LC laboratories in Bangladesh and Indonesia.
