About Sylvain Biéler

Sylvain joined FIND in 2007 and is currently leading the human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) portfolio, which includes projects spanning IVD product development and clinical trials to introduction of new diagnostics for HAT. His work in managing clinical studies to evaluate new HAT diagnostics has resulted in the roll-out of a rapid diagnostic test, a molecular test, and fluorescence microscopy methods to diagnose HAT in several sub-Saharan African countries.

Following biology studies at the University of Geneva and King’s College of London, Sylvain joined Serono in Geneva, working, inter alia, on the development of a test for prion diseases as well as new drugs to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Prior to joining FIND, Sylvain worked as an Assistant in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the University of Geneva, where he obtained a PhD in biology. His experience includes serving as Research Assistant at the Department of Neurology of the University of Texas Medical Branch. While at FIND, Sylvain earned a Master of Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
