It conducts diagnostic network optimization and route optimization analysis, for any disease.

OptiDx enables countries to design diagnostic networks that align with national health goals and supports efforts towards universal health coverage.

Technical skills

Advanced data analysis and familiarity with lab data. Prior GIS or mathematical modelling experience ideal.

Data requirements

Data collation from various existing documents/ repositories at national, regional or facility level typically required. Key data inputs include:

  • Geocoordinates of labs and health facilities, facility level data on number and type of diagnostic device, testing demand, current testing volumes and sample referral, costing data

Key Outputs

Recommendations related to testing capacity, improving access to testing and improving utilization of devices for e.g.

  • Number and type of devices required to meet testing demand
  • Optimal location for placing new devices or relocation of existing devices
  • Optimal sample referral linkages/ routes

Current use

  • More than 20 countries across Asia and Africa primarily
  • TB, HIV, HPV, COVID-19, Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) and integrated multi-disease testing
  • Led by Ministries of Health with technical support from partners

Budget*

No license costs. Country team staffing and technical support cost for conducting analysis range from USD 100-200 thousand

Timeline*

Typically 6-8 months (with 3 months of initial data collation)
