Dr Ayoade Alakija Appointed to the Accra Reset initiative

Geneva, Switzerland - 09/04/2026.

FIND congratulates Dr Ayoade Alakija, Chair of the FIND Board, on her appointment to the Accra Reset High-Level Consultative Group on Reform of the Global Health Architecture and Governance.

The Accra Reset, an African-led initiative championed by the President of Ghana, H.E. John Mahama, has convened a High-Level Panel tasked with developing concrete, actionable proposals to reshape the global health system and economic support.

The Panel will be supported by a High-Level Consultative Group designed to ensure structured engagement with key global health and financing institutions, including Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of the World Trade Organization and other key leaders.

As a member of this Consultative Group, Dr Alakija will help guide the Panel’s work as it advances recommendations on global health governance, financing and equity at a critical moment for pandemic preparedness and health system resilience. The Panel’s outputs are expected to inform major global processes, including deliberations at the World Health Assembly and the United Nations General Assembly.

Following a meeting with President Mahama of Ghana on the sidelines of the One Health Summit in Lyon to discuss the Africa Reset, Dr Alakija said: “I am honoured to support the Accra Reset, contributing to an effort that is led by African leaders and seeks to reshape the global health and economic architecture at a critical moment. For too long, countries in Africa and low- and middle-income countries have been positioned as passive recipients, rather than sovereign actors, within systems that profoundly affect their people and economies. This initiative represents an important step toward a more equitable, sovereign and accountable global order.”

Dr Alakija’s appointment reflects her leadership in global health, including championing access to diagnostics, vaccines and countermeasures during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as Co-Chair of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT), Board Chair of FIND and Ministerial Global Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance for Nigeria.

FIND congratulates Dr Alakija on this important global recognition. We are proud to see her leadership contributing to the shaping of a more equitable and effective global health architecture, including the advancement of diagnostics as a foundation for quality health for all.
