FIND at Davos25: Board Chair Moderates High-Level Session with Government of Japan

Yesterday, FIND Board Chair Dr Ayoade Alakija moderated a high-level session on increasing investment for global health at the World Economic Forum taking place at Davos this week. In her opening remarks, Ms Tomonoh Rio, Parliamentary Vice-Minister, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan also thanked Dr Alakija for her contributions to global health. Other speakers at the session included Mr Steve Davis, Senior Adviser to the Gates Foundation, Ken Shibusawa, CEO of Shibusawa and Co, and His Excellency, Ambassador Hideo Suzuki, Global Health Ambassador for Japan.

The session highlighted the need for increased investment into diagnostics and women’s health in low- and middle-income countries. Charles Gore, Executive Director, Medicines Patent Pool spoke to the importance of diagnostics and national capabilities for manufacturing in LMICs. These comments were echoed by Mr. Gerry Lazer, Portfolio Manager for KfW and Mr. Denys Denya, Senior Executive Vice President, African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

Dr. Zina Affas Besse, Partner-Deputy Head of Healthcare Private Equity, AXA IM provided specific examples of the development of devices such as Jada that has a 94% success rate for controlling postpartum haemorrhage and the impact such devices have on the women in LMICs.
