Official Statement from FIND

FIND warmly congratulates the Government of Chad and the National human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) Program, on the remarkable achievement of eliminating sleeping sickness (human African trypanosomiasis) as a public health problem.

This milestone reflects years of committed leadership, collaboration, and investment in innovation and health systems strengthening. It also marks a major step forward in the fight against neglected tropical diseases for Chad and for the region.

FIND is proud to have partnered with the HAT Program in Chad throughout this journey—from the early stages of diagnostic development to supporting medical interventions, including both passive and active surveillance. This success is a powerful testament to what is possible when science, policy, and community-driven action come together.

Chad’s achievement represents a national victory and a meaningful regional advancement. We celebrate this milestone alongside our partners and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the global, regional and national efforts to eliminate sleeping sickness once and for all.
