About Adam Penn-Nicholson

Adam joined FIND in 2018 and is currently Deputy Head of the TB programme. His career spans many aspects of vaccinology and diagnostics, with strong scientific training in TB, HIV and emerging infectious diseases.

Adam has been project lead for several multi-center diagnostic accuracy studies for novel TB diagnostics. He brings considerable experience in technical, quality, training and grant/project management aspects of conducting clinical research in a low-income setting, and shows a demonstrated passion for clinical and translational research. He received his BSc (Hons) in Molecular Biology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and his PhD in Molecular Virology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Adam has worked in industry on the development and manufacture of vaccines for biodefence and emerging public health concerns, and was trained as a clinical immunologist at the South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative at the University of Cape Town.
