Diagnostics and intellectual property

Intellectual property is a hotly debated topic in healthcare.

The pharmaceutical and vaccines industries both make regular use of patents to protect their innovative products but, in many cases, patents are less consequential for diagnostic tests due to their unique nature.

Alongside patents, “know-how” is core to diagnostic IP – confidential information associated with a technology, including trade secrets.
