The Role of Research in Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence

“Diagnostics are often ignored when planning for pandemics,” said Dr Dayo in a session focusing on the role of research in pandemic and epidemic intelligence. The 9th WHO Speaker Series, which is co-hosted in Berlin by the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence and Charité Université, took place in Berlin on 28 November 2024.

The session focused on questions such as: how can researchers strengthen disease surveillance? How can research findings being incorporated into decision-making? And how to address the funding needs of pandemic research?

The speakers also included Dr Alice Norton (GloPID-R); Prof Stefan Flasche (Charité University Hospital); Prof David Heymann (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine); and Dr Natsuko Imai-Eaton (Wellcome Trust).
