Remembering Paul Allen

Dear FIND colleagues, partners, friends,

It is with great sadness and regret that we have learned of the passing of Microsoft co-founder Paul G Allen, generous supporter of many philanthropic projects both in the Pacific Northwest region, where he grew up, and further afield, for example, in Africa and Latin America. Mr Allen died at age 65 on 15 October 2018 from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Over several years, Paul G Allen Philanthropies pledged ongoing support for health research and public health initiatives. The philanthropic foundation was one of the first to pledge funding for efforts to stop the Zika outbreak, and was also there when the global health community came together to respond to the Ebola outbreak in 2014.

FIND is deeply grateful to Mr Allen’s foundation for the generous support received for our projects in epidemic preparedness.

“In an increasingly connected and changing world, the threat of dangerous infectious diseases will never disappear. However, with vigilance, innovation and proactive collaboration, we can avoid their worst impacts – and prevent them from becoming global health crises.” – Paul G. Allen Philanthropies

Thank you, Paul Allen.
