FIND intervention statement at the G20 High-level Meeting on one health

Delivered by Dr Ayoade Alakija, FIND, Chair Board
30 October 2024, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Thank you, Chair.

On behalf of FIND, I want to reinforce that without diagnostics we are blind, and unable to define the right strategy to combat AMR at national, regional and global levels. Addressing AMR, through a One Health approach, research and development (R&D), and global coordination is critical for achieving UHC and securing healthcare systems worldwide.

FIND welcomes the G20 and especially Brazil’s leadership in strengthening intersectoral AMR surveillance systems and promoting responsible timely diagnosis and antimicrobial stewardship.

As the G20 Health Ministers endorse the Declaration on Climate Change, Health Equity, and the One Health Approach at tomorrow’s Ministerial Meeting, FIND urges G20 Member States and all our partners in the global AMR community to consider that as climate change increasingly contributes to the growth of AMR, we must use digital tools to develop One Health surveillance platforms to track resistance.

Furthermore, I wish to take this opportunity to invite you all at the fourth Ministerial Conference on AMR in Saudi Arabia, to a side event on closing the diagnostic gaps for AMR, to be hosted by FIND. We hope all the Ministers and international partners present here will join us. Together, we must tackle and face this challenge.

Obrigada.
