Join us in Hyderabad for Union 2019

The 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health is around the corner. It’s a special year, and an extra-special event – the first time since 1957 that the meeting has taken place in India. With India being a long-time strategic partner to FIND, it’s going to be a busy congress for us too. Our focus will be on progress towards the 2030 #EndTB goals, with sessions that explore new thinking in diagnostic innovation and updates on R&D and access.

If you’ll be in Hyderabad, here’s a full run-down of all our activities at Union.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the newest member of our senior team: Dr Sergio Carmona has now joined us as Director for our TB, HIV and HCV programmes. He comes from the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) in South Africa, bringing extensive experience from that country, particularly in the areas of molecular diagnostics and treatment monitoring for early infant diagnosis, HIV drug resistance and associated co-infections. Most recently, he has used matching algorithms to generate virtual patient cohorts from large laboratory datasets to monitor the South African HIV treatment programme, one of the largest in the world, with the intent to inform guidelines and health policies. He has also been responsible for the evaluation of several high-throughput molecular technologies, point-of-care solutions and assays for NHLS in partnership with the US CDC and WHO. Sergio will remain affiliated to his alma mater, University of Witwatersrand, and will support the conclusion of the PEPFAR–CDC collaborative agreement with the NHLS, for which he is Principal Investigator.

Hope to see you in Hyderabad!
